“Come to me…and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
As renovations took place in our common areas at Kirkwood, our Kirkwood Beeson Chapel became more than just our worship space. It saw birthday parties, wellness classes, seminars, and performances. The chapel has always been the center of our community – as our faith is our centering stronghold – but it took on an expanded purpose as we gathered for fellowship.
We moved our pews out of the chapel to better serve the temporary multipurpose nature of the space. In doing so, we realized we were better served using chairs for worship instead of pews. At about this time, The Episcopal Diocese of Alabama released a memo looking for pews for a smaller parish in their family of churches called The Church of the Epiphany in Leeds, located just ten minutes from our community. We knew our pews would find home within their walls.
Prayers have been cast from our pews for forty years. They have supported us in times of celebration and in times of distress. We are so grateful that they will live on to provide a place of spiritual respite for those who need it at Epiphany.
