Something that everyone asks when looking into an Independent Living retirement community is, “what is dining and meal time like?” This is a very important question to consider, especially because one big draw of moving to a community is that cooking would no longer be entirely necessary. At Kirkwood, we take dining very seriously, and so do our residents. We have an entire committee of people dedicated to fine tuning our dining and kitchen practices.
The Kirkwood dining room is open for 3 meals a day and is a cook-to-order style kitchen experience. Independent Living and Assisted Living residents are welcome to come to the dining room for any of their meals while Memory Care Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing residents generally eat in the dining room on their floor unless accompanied by a friend or family member. (Assisted Living also has a dining room on their floor so they are able to choose where they dine). We also can deliver meals to residents in their individual apartments. Upon arrival to the dining room, you may sit wherever you like and a waiter or waitress will come and take your order. Each day, there are 3 specials on the menu or you may choose an item from the main menu that stays the same year round and is full of fan favorites! As we mentioned, the food is cooked to order meaning you are able to add and remove side items or, at times, ingredients that don’t suit your fancy.
Our Independent Living rental plan comes with one meal per day and our Membership plan comes with two but you are able to add on additional meals for a monthly fee. During the pandemic, we have implemented extra precautions to ensure that social distancing is prioritized during the dining experience!
