We had so many amazing events this month, from the Valentine’s party, to countless concerts, and of course our Mardi Gras Celebration – and they were all amazing! But this month’s community favorite was our trip out to Morgan Creek Winery for a tasting and lunch was definitely this month’s favorite.
Morgan Creek Winery is a quaint vineyard and winery located in Harpersville, Alabama. They specialize in muscadine and other fruit wines grown locally on their farm in Harpersville. They have been perfecting their wine for 20 years now and have their products in over 500 stores all over Alabama. The Brammer family, who owns and operates the winery, attributes their success to the fact that Morgan Creek has created its own niche. “We specialize in muscadine and fruit wines—semi-sweet to sweetish wines—and nobody has really done those commercially,” Brammer explains. Moreover, he says he had no interest in competing with legions of chardonnays, cabernets and more traditional wines already crowding the shelves in stores, and wanted to focus on a product that would be truly native to the area. “One of our clichés is, grits don’t come from New York, and chardonnay doesn’t come from Alabama,” he says.
Our residents absolutely loved their time there learning about the history of Morgan Creek and tasting delicious wine before lunch! We cannot thank the folks there enough for their hospitality and hope to have this event on the calendar again next year!
